Rachel, 27 ans, vit et travaille en Amérique. Ayant pris trop de somnifères pour s'endormir après une soirée arrosée à la cocaïne, elle se retrouve à l'hôpital pour un lavage d'estomac. Catégorisée tentative de suicide,la jeune femme va faire un séjour en Irlande dans un centre de réhabilitation. Ce que Rachel imaginait comme des vacances dans un hôtel de luxe rempli de célébrités et de jacuzzi se révèlera être le début d'un long parcours.  

J'avais bien aimé sushi for beginners, mais j'ai trouvé celui-ci un peu longuet.

A mistake. Never agree with you friends when they're going through a bad patch with their fella. Because the minute they've made it up, she turns nasty on you and says: "what's all this about you not liking Pradaig/Eliot/Miguel?" Then she tells him and they both hate you and rewrite history, saying that you tried to split them up.

p. 496 "You mean I can't ever take anything ever again?" I demanded.
"That's right" she confirmed. "You should know by now that once you start, you can't stop. You've exposed yourself to narcotics so often that you've permanently upset the chemical balance in your brain. Once you ingest narcotics, your brain reacts by becoming depressed, thus setting up a craving for more drugs, more depression, more drugs, etc. You're physically as well as psychologically addicted.
"And the physical addiction is irreversible." she added casually.
